Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat, accredited B++ by the
NAAC in 2004 was established under the South Gujarat University,
Act 1965 passed by the Gujarat State legislative Assembly and
was incorporated as a University in 1967. The UGC recognition
was obtained in 1968.
There are 77 grants - in -
aid colleges, 91 self - Financed colleges/Institutions and 78
Post Graduate Teaching Centres in colleges affiliated to the
University. There
are 16 Post Graduate Departments offering various Post Graduate
teaching programmes, besides M.Phil and Ph.D. in various
disciplines. There
are 17 Self - Financed Programmes on the campus.
The University offers 117 Graduate Programmes and 32 Post
Graduate Programmes (Including Self - Financed Programmes). The faculty comprises 86 Permanent Teacher.
The number of Non - Teaching Staff is 346. The Overall
enrolment of the University has gone to over 1 Lac Students.
The campus of the University which is spread over and
area of 210 acres is on the outskirts of Surat city on Udhna -
Magdalla Road and has nearly 2,700 students studying in the
various Post Graduates Departments.
The University has faculties of Science, Arts, Education,
Management Studies, Commerce, Rural Studies, Engineering and
Technologies, Medicine and Law.
Courses included under five of these Faculties are
conducted on the campus. The
programmes offered by the Post Graduate Departments offer
flexibility for enrolment with multi- Disciplinary Intake in
business and industrial Management.
Rural studies, Public Administration, HRD and M.Sc.(I.T.
& ICT) Programmes, and to innovative programmes of UGC.
The University believes in
harnessing all its resources evolving standards and adopts the
best practice to promote excellence in teaching and research on
the lines of the UNESCO declaration on the Higher Education and
benchmark against the best University of the country.
